Embodying Bodies - 2024
Fabrice Mazliah & Work of Act
Mousounturm, Frankfurt & Theater im Dept, Dortmund
Fabrice Mazliah/Work of Act's new work is inspired by biologist Lynn Margulis's concept of symbiosis and her understanding of the human body as a holobiont—an ecosystem in which human cells coexist with a multitude of other life forms. "Embodying Bodies" transcends the boundaries of the human body, questioning whether we can understand ourselves as part of a larger, non-human community where interdependent organisms live together, react to one another, and provide for each other. Various elements, such as water and stones, or living organisms like kombucha skin, are incorporated into the choreography and mingle with the dancers. The performance invites us to consider the body as a richly inhabited landscape, aiming to cultivate a different sense of ourselves and the environment to which we belong.
