I'm Not Talking to You Performance — 2020

I'm Not Talking to You emerged from a month-long online residency with Goethe-Institut Cairo, developed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the course of four weeks, a group of artists met online to investigate what it means to share a space through a screen — how physical presence is altered, compressed, and reimagined when mediated by a digital interface. The research process itself became the material: the meetings, the glitches, the distances, the unexpected intimacies.

The work that emerged is a performance on Zoom — exploring how communication through a screen shapes identity, presence, and the way we relate to one another. What impressions do we form of others when we meet them this way? What assumptions do we make? Are we the same version of ourselves when we act, talk, react, and disagree through a screen — and how do we move forward from there?
