Self Portrait - 2022
The performance takes us on a personal journey - the performer's relationship with dance, approached from multiple angles: representation, overwork, romanticisation, the flexibility of body and mind, the vulnerability of being on stage, the sociopolitical dimensions of dance, and simply its joy.
By moving through the narrator's inner world and playing with the audience's imagination - oscillating between describing movement and actually performing it on stage - the piece draws the audience closer to what dance means to the performer, and what it has made of him.
